Can the Affut'Cap stone sharpen all types of knives?
Yes. The Affut'Cap stone is universal: it sharpens kitchen knives (chef's, fillet, paring), harvesting knives, pocket knives, garden scissors and cutting tools. Its coarse grit is best suited to blades that are truly dull. For a very fine edge on a high-end kitchen knife, a finer-grit finishing stone would be the better choice as a second step.
Does the Affut'Cap stone need to be wet before use?
No. The Affut'Cap stone is used dry only. This is one of its main advantages: no preparation, no soaking time, no oil to apply. Take it out, sharpen, put it away. Particularly practical in the field or during harvesting.
What is the difference between the Affut'Cap stone and a classic dual-grit whetstone?
A dual-grit stone (such as the Felco 902) offers two grits — medium and fine — for a two-stage sharpening process. The Affut'Cap stone offers a single coarse grit in an oval section designed to be hand-held like a steel. It is made for quick, mobile use with no bench, no water. The two tools are complementary: the Affut'Cap for fast field sharpening, a dual-grit stone for careful bench sharpening.
Can the Affut'Cap stone sharpen pruning shear blades?
Yes, with some care. To sharpen a pruning shear blade with the Affut'Cap, remove or open the shear, hold the blade flat and draw the stone along the bevel. For more precise pruner sharpening, the Felco 902 (dual-grit corundum) or Felco 903 (diamond) remain the references, as they allow better angle control.
