For a file to work effectively, it must be harder than the steel it cuts. This is the basic principle of filing: if both materials have similar hardness, the file will slide without cutting and wear out quickly without results.

This 250 mm PFERD round smooth file is designed to work on hardened steels between 57 and 62 HRC, which corresponds to the hardness range of the tools we offer (axes, sickles, billhooks, hoes). It is particularly suited for restoring an edge in curved areas, deburring holes, or adjusting internal shapes without removing too much material.

Its round shape allows easy work in:

  • radii
  • drilled holes
  • hard-to-reach recesses

Technical specifications

✅ Round smooth file, cut 3 (fine teeth)

✅ Length: 250 mm

✅ Shape: round — ideal for internal and curved surfaces

✅ High hardness: works on hardened steels 57–62 HRC

✅ Regular cut for controlled material removal

✅ Made by PFERD (Germany)

Use

  • Adjusting rounded or hollow shapes
  • Deburring holes
  • Tool maintenance (curved areas, teeth, hooks…)
  • Light edge restoration in areas not accessible with a flat file

Proper technique

  • Push only (forward stroke)
  • Do not apply pressure on the return stroke
  • Maintain a regular motion for even results

Maintenance

  • Clean regularly with a file brush
  • Prevent clogging of the teeth
  • Store separately to preserve cutting edges
  • Keep dry (sensitive to corrosion)
