FAQ
What is the difference between the Felco 6 and the Felco 2?
The Felco 2 is the standard pruner in the range, designed for large hands at 215 mm with a straight cutting head. The Felco 6 is more compact (195 mm, 210 g), has an angled cutting head for better wrist comfort, and is recommended for small to medium hands. If you have small or medium hands or do intensive pruning work, the Felco 6 will be noticeably more comfortable.
Is the Felco 6 suitable for women?
Yes, the Felco 6 is particularly popular with women thanks to its compact size, low weight (210 g) and angled head that reduces wrist strain. For very small hands, the Felco 14 (180 mm) may be an even more compact option. The Felco 6 strikes the right balance between compactness and a 20 mm cutting capacity.
What types of pruning is the Felco 6 best suited to?
It excels at pruning roses, flowering shrubs, perennials, climbing plants and small fruit trees up to 20 mm in diameter. It is also widely used in viticulture for vine pruning, thanks to its manoeuvrability. For branches over 20 mm, a Felco 2 or lopper would be more appropriate.
Can I sharpen the Felco 6 blade myself?
Yes. Like all Felco bypass pruners, the Felco 6 blade has a single bevel — only the bevelled side is sharpened, using a diamond file (Felco 903) or whetstone (Felco 902). Regular sharpening every 2 to 3 hours of pruning maintains performance and extends blade life significantly.
Is the Felco 6 repairable?
Yes — like all Felco pruners. The blade (ref. 6/3), spring (ref. 6/11), shock absorbers (ref. 6/7) and all other parts are available separately from La Fabriculture. A well-maintained Felco pruner can last decades, which is one of the brand's key arguments against disposable tools.
