Surface weeding is not enough. A dandelion cut 3 cm down will regrow from its tap root. A thistle half-pulled comes back stronger. To get rid of deep-rooted weeds for good, you need to extract the whole root — and that is exactly what the Felco 442 does.

Its forged boron steel blade, with its distinctive snake-tongue shape, is narrow, long and tapered. It drives precisely into the soil alongside the root without disturbing the surrounding earth, then a gentle rocking motion levers the root out along its full length. The plant comes out whole, cleanly, leaving no fragment behind that could regrow.

Forged boron steel — the same material as the Felco 401 trowel — is harder and more wear-resistant than ordinary carbon steel. USE

3-step action:

• Drive in: push the pointed blade into the soil 2–3 cm from the base of the plant, vertically or slightly angled towards the root;
• Rock: make a gentle levering motion to loosen the root along its full length without breaking it;
• Extract: pull the plant out whole cleanly — check no fragment remains in the ground.

Tips:

• Work after rain or watering when possible: soft soil makes complete extraction easier;
• Work dry conditions afterwards so fragments don't accidentally re-root;
• Ideal for dandelion, thistle, dock, tap-rooted bindweed, ground ivy.
