The Rinaldi 307-5 is a Trento-pattern axe with a wide, rounded edge typical of Italian and French forestry traditions. In its 1300 g version, it makes an outstanding axe for felling, cross-cutting and above all limbing. Its thick, heavy head delivers superior splitting power and excellent strike inertia, while remaining compact despite its broad edge. The 88 cm handle strikes a fine balance between power and manoeuvrability, allowing you to work a full day without excessive fatigue. It also works as a finishing axe for hewing beams in traditional timber framing. Forged in Italy using centuries-old craftsmanship, it stands out for its exceptionally hard, heat-treated steel (58 HRC).

Please note: this is a hand-forged tool and may show minor surface irregularities. This does not affect performance — it makes each piece unique. Our axes are sold as-forged and may carry a wire edge. We strongly recommend honing the edge before first use, even though the axe is already quite sharp.

Technical features

✅ High-resistance heat-treated steel, 58 HRC hardness (spring steel — the same alloy used for our Campagnole hoe tines);

✅ Weight: 1300 g head with a wide, rounded, thick profile delivering excellent strike inertia and splitting power;

✅ 88 cm ergonomic wooden handle for good reach and precise control;

✅ As-forged edge, ready to use after final honing by the user;

✅ Latin-style hafting (traditional in French and Italian axes): the handle is driven in and locks by friction alone — highly secure, no metal wedge needed; ✅ Versatile: suited to felling, cross-cutting, limbing and beam hewing for traditional timber framing;

✅ Italian manufacture: drop-forged in a single piece and hand-finished.

Use

  • Keep the correct angle when striking for optimal wood penetration;
  • Always use the axe on a stable surface — a chopping block for example;
  • A sharp axe is a safe axe: a dull blade demands more effort and increases the risk of accidents.

Care & Maintenance

  • Sharpening: Hone regularly with a suitable whetstone to ensure a clean, safe cut;
  • Cleaning: Wipe the blade after every use to prevent moisture and corrosion;
  • Protection: Apply a thin coat of vegetable oil to the blade to preserve the edge;
  • Storage: Keep the axe in a dry place to extend its service life.
