FAQ
What is the difference between the Maraîcher 80 cm and the Gardener 50 cm?
The Maraîcher is wider (80 cm vs 50 cm), fitted with pneumatic Ø 26 cm wheels for better stability on wide beds, and suited to plots over 300 m². The Gardener is more manoeuvrable, lighter and designed for smaller spaces and home gardeners. For professional or semi-professional use on large plots, the Maraîcher is the better choice.
Can the Maraîcher replace a rotary tiller on a smallholding?
On reasonable areas (up to 1,000–2,000 m² depending on the user's physical condition), yes — especially in intensive market gardening on permanent beds where the soil is maintained regularly. It does not invert the soil, which is often desirable in permaculture and agroecology. It remains a manual tool: beyond 2,000 m² on initial preparation of very compacted ground, a motorised pass may be needed.
Why choose fixed counter-teeth rather than springs on the Maraîcher?
Fixed counter-teeth are recommended for heavy, clay soils: their rigidity fractures compact clods more effectively. If your soil is light, sandy or stony, the spring counter-tooth version is preferable — the springs eject stones and roots without jamming.
What is the advantage of the Maraîcher's pneumatic wheels over the Gardener's rigid wheels?
The pneumatic Ø 26 cm wheels absorb ground irregularities and roll more easily over ridges, furrows and bed edges. On large plots, they reduce transport fatigue and provide better lateral stability during work.
