The Odinette is La Fabriculture's handcrafted grelinette, made in Aveyron, France. Inspired by the grelinette invented by André Grelin in the 1960s, it follows the same founding principle: loosen and aerate soil deeply without turning it over, preserving its natural structure and the microbial life within.

Available from 3 to 8 tines, it adapts to any plot size and any user profile — from the home gardener to the professional market grower. It comes with an untreated wooden handle of 120 cm or 145 cm, with or without adjustable grips to suit your height and comfort.

Benefits

Made in France grelinette — handcrafted in Aveyron, hardened steel and untreated wood.
Aeration without turning — unlike a spade or rotary tiller, the Odinette loosens soil while preserving its natural layers and soil fauna.
Adaptable to your plot — from 3 to 8 tines to suit every size, from narrow rows to wide market garden beds.
Versatile — soil loosening, seedbed preparation, row aeration, leek transplanting.
Configurable — handle 120 or 145 cm, with or without adjustable grips.
2-year weld warranty — built for regular use, season after season.

How to use

  • Position the Odinette perpendicular to the ground and press down on the frame and V-shaped brace to drive the tines into the soil;
  • Pull the handles towards you to lift and loosen the earth without turning it over;
  • Step back and repeat across the entire working area — closer passes will give better loosening results;
  • Ideal on beds 30–80 cm wide, between borders, or along narrow rows;
  • Can be used for leek transplanting: push in the tines and lever slightly to open a slit in the soil;
  • Works equally well on bare soil or after light mulching, in gardens, vegetable plots, or market garden plots.

Maintenance

  • After each use, rinse the tines with water and/or remove soil residue with an Osborn wire brush ref. 523;
  • At the end of the season, lightly oil the tines with linseed oil to prevent rust;
  • Store away from moisture, preferably hanging;
  • The wooden handle should be treated once a year with a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine.

FAQ

Is the Odinette a grelinette?

Yes. The Odinette is La Fabriculture's version of the grelinette: it works on exactly the same principle as André Grelin's original tool, with hardened-steel tines pushed into the soil and levered back to loosen it without turning. It stands out through its artisanal manufacture in Aveyron, its robust materials, and its many customisation options (number of tines, handle length, adjustable grips).

What is the difference with the long-tine Odinette?

The standard Odinette suits the vast majority of gardens and vegetable plots. The long-tine version is designed for heavily compacted or long-untouched soils, penetrating up to 30 cm deep. If your soil is dense, clay-heavy, or has not been worked for several seasons, the long-tine model will perform better.

How many tines should I choose?

The Odinette is available in 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 tines. The 5-tine version (44 cm) is the best-seller: it suits most home vegetable gardens and standard growing beds. The 3- and 4-tine models are ideal for narrow rows or small plots. From 7 tines upwards, the tool is aimed more at professional growers and market gardeners — the 8-tine version (77 cm) is designed for 80 cm wide beds used in intensive market gardening.

Should I choose the version with adjustable grips?

Adjustable grips improve comfort and reduce fatigue during longer gardening sessions. They allow you to adapt the handle height to your build. If the tool is shared between users of different heights, the grip option is a real asset.

Can the handle be replaced if it breaks?

Yes. Replacement handles are available separately in our accessories range. The Odinette is designed to be repairable, in line with our commitment to durability and waste reduction.
